As human beings, we continuously strive to become better and achieve success. This idea of success can have many meanings to various people. Some might refer to success as monetary gains, prestigious titles, and rewards. Furthermore, many choose to climb the ladder of success to find themselves unrecognizable in the mirror. Ambition is great until it becomes your idol to the point where you lose who you are. Many people have experienced this in their own personal lives, and it might include ignoring loved ones, betraying coworkers for a promotion, and becoming the person they fear to be. Achieving something is great, but how you go about it can lift or break you. You can achieve anything in this world, but there will always be an empty void. That empty void many seem to chase is always knocking on their heart. Few people open the door to invite Jesus in.
The Burning Passion is a story filled with ambition, empty voids, and false ideas of this world. Throughout the story, Kate, who is an exotic dancer, finds her love in monetary gains to the point where she feels superior. Yet, on a busy night, she finds herself overdosing and falling from the top end of the pole. Suddenly, she realizes that she’s in hell as her life flashes before her eyes, though her memories aren’t fond. Kate views how she has treated people and even experiences what they felt when she degraded them. Without a second thought, she calls out to God and begs for mercy. Hearing her plea, Jesus grants her a second chance, which causes her to awake from a deep coma. Kate is fortunate enough to receive a second chance after death.
When she awakes, she immediately has an epiphany and realizes that she wants to fill that empty void that was always in her. Kate decides to follow the Lord and reflect on her definition of success. She sells her possessions and relocates to Texas, where she meets a witty countryman by the name of Paul Bretzon. Realizing that she is saved, she finds herself contemplating going back to the things she used to do. Kate also realizes that life as a Christian is not as easy as she believed it to be. Throughout the story, she returns to her old ways by idolizing the idea of love. Yet, this is her ultimate test. Kate soon realizes that her definition of success was never found in wealth or love but through following Jesus. In the end, blessings are bestowed on her and Paul when they realize this crucial information they have been missing. So, what is your definition of success?
