Dove Series

Many of us might feel confused at the idea of finding that perfect someone. The idea of experiencing love with someone who you have dreamed about sounds enticing. Yet, what does it mean? What does perfection appear to be in your eyes? You might desire someone perfectly attractive in every aspect of their lives regarding appearance, career, status, and financial situation. Yet is that someone right for you? Our definition of perfection is flawed because we live in a broken world. We live in a world that views the outside of a person but fails to see what is inside. Unfortunately, beauty is measured by height, weight, race, and even social status. As humans, we fail to see the true inner beauty within someone and ignore the potential of a romantic relationship. Now, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t have preferences. This means that we should open our eyes to what’s really in front of us.

Throughout this book, we see Skylar’s inner struggles, struggles that many of us can relate to due to societal norms. Skylar is baffled about who she’s meant to be with and invites the Lord to help her. Yet she continuously fails to see the truth that’s in front of her. Despite knowing the truth from the gospel, she decides to follow her own way and beliefs in this world. One of her beliefs is that a man should be a certain height, which is why she’s skeptical of Jasper being her potential partner. Even though her own thoughts betray her, the feelings she has for Jasper baffle her to the point where she asks for space. In turn, she meets a young Italian firefighter who is exactly her type.

Although each person is unique in this world, no one is perfect. Skylar soon finds out that Vinni has his own flaws and Jasper truly has what she needs. Despite knowing the truth, she decides to talk to both men and promises herself that she won’t allow herself to fall in love. How many of us have said that? Does it work? Throughout the book, Skylar finds herself troubled because she believes that she has fallen in love with both men. As a Christian, she finds herself entangled in a forbidden love triangle that leaves her heartbroken. So, what does Skylar’s story have to do with the world? Well, despite knowing that she shouldn’t judge one’s flaws and overlook the best in someone, she chooses to follow the path of the world. The path of the world regarding romance is excitement, danger, and love that is actually infatuation. This book is a series due to the inner conflict of the character and the heartbreak she endures.

In the second novel, Skylar finds herself heartbroken and determined to rekindle her relationship with Jasper. Yet her faith is tested as she finds herself in a car crash that leaves her paralyzed.
